This has been expected, but very few people thought it would happen this quickly. I suppose Jobs' challenge to the industry carried more weight than was realized. Of course, his concession to charge more than a buck for DRM-free tunes probably helped. I'm interested to see how Apple implements this in iTunes. It may open a line of attack for hackers on the stuff that is still DRMed. Of course, if the rest of the industry follows suit, it'll be moot. The real suprise here was the timing.
