Just came across this and thought I’d throw it out.

There’s also a little from the Whoping Willows in there as well.

Heh. You’re right where I was a couple/three weeks ago. Keep going, it’s a fun ride.
My current faves: The Mudbloods (insanely good. So much so, that I’m not sure why they’ve embraced the genre. Good on them regardless.) ,and Severus Snape (Spot-On 70’s metal. Think Black Sabbath with Snape on vocals.) I’m also liking Ginny and the Heartbreakers–super girly teen(?) group, but damn infectious. I’m almost embarassed to say that “I have Red Hair” is high on my list.
DatM are a personal fave. After you get the lyrics down, I recommend their Travis Auditorium set (on archive.org.) It’s instrument heavy, which sets the songs off quite well, IMHO.
After hearing the live cuts from Draco, Church, I have to say they’ve made quite an impression. I admit that I was too hasty in my earlier dismissal of ‘em.
While I dig The Mudbloods for sure (have you heard, Oliver Boyd and the Rememberalls?), they’re almost a little to polished for me.
I’m not sure if it is that they are more rock then pop or that the lo-fi estectic seems to fit Wizard Rock better in my mind, but I prefer the sort of ‘winging it’ approach of the other bands.
That said, Church I am fully expecting a kick ass video from you for We Are The DA, by Oliver Boyd shortly after Order of the Pheonix hits DVD.
Current faves for me are Draco, the Parselmouths, and the Whomping Willows. I know, obvious. Give me time though, I’m still exploring.
I’m also intrigued by DJ Lovegood, there’s a sort of weird mid-80s experimental quality to her that intrigues me, and Remus and The Lupins, who didn’t do anything for me to begin with but have kind of grown on me.
I’ve also got high hopes for The Remus Lupins (different then Remus and the Lupins), but I’m with holding judgement for the moment while I decide just how much I dig his stuff (I need to use AudioHijack to grab his songs off myspace until the CD shows up). I’ll be posting a video soon though that just looks like all kinds of fun.

Heh. I know whay you mean—there’s a bit of punk rock in all these bands.
That said, the thing that most impressed me about the Mudbloods was the way they use the source material. They paint really nice pictures using the imagery from Harry Potter, rather than the more narrative approach most of the others take.
I haven’t heard much of Remus—no D/Ls on his myspace page :P
