Harry and the Gang
Written on February 21, 2007
So Z’s latest podcast has introduced me to a new genre, Wizard Rock. Like Nerdcore, we’ve got another genre that I would have known about if I’d been paying attention, since I’ve known about Harry and the Potters for awhile.
Here’s the video that goes along with the Switchblade Kittens’ track that Z played,
Sites to check out for more info:

- WizardRocklopedia
- Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club (hopefully they’re still taking subscriptions)
- Wizard Rockumentary
Expect more in the future when I get a chance to dig around here.
In the meantime, I came across this and thought it was kind of cute. More from this user can be found here, looks fun.

Z and I have been shooting recommendations on Wiz Rock bands back and forth for a bit now. A good place to start if you’re new to the genre is a couple live sets on archive.org. Harry and the Potters have a good set at:

Draco and the Malfoys have a bunch up too. I recommend:

And Church comes through with the love. Thanks man! Downloading now.
I just got around to watching both the videos you linked to. It’s interesting, I had come across the Kitten’s video before, and I hated it–I didn’t even finish it. Z recommended the song, so I listened to it by itself and loved it.
Conversely, I would have been pretty non-plussed by the song in the last vid you linked to, but with the Potterverse context of the visuals I found it much more interesting. (It reminds me of the Backdorm Boys– the only way I’ll enjoy the Backstreet Boys’ music.)
