A history

January 31, 2007

The previous mention of Mondo 2000 sent me off on a little research splurge. Poking around, I ended up coming across A History of Mondo 2000. Its a pretty interesting article about the history of the magazine and why it was so relevant. Worth a read.

She’s Such a Geek

I haven’t had a chance to read the transcript yet, but R U Sirius has an interview with the editors and one of the contributors of She’s Such a Geek, a collection of essays by women about geek women.
I picked the book up a little while ago, and while I haven’t had a chance to [...]

More from CES

Karl posts a link to another video blog entry about the fun that went down at CES.
Honestly, if I could link to only one five minute entry to describe Nerdcore, I think this would be it. A bunch of people are interviewed (Fanatical, BBear, MC Plus+, and I think a few others) and the [...]

January 29, 2007

A quick post that I’ve been meaning to make.
I came across this a week or so ago and have been meaning to post about it. Archeophone Records is a label that sells recordings from early 20th Century. One of the cool things is that they have ‘year book’ compilations that let you sample [...]

Well, looks like Nerdcore is finished.
Its been fun folks. May be I’ll see you around.

The Other Geek Beat

Living in the Nerdcore echo chamber its easy to come to think of Nerdcore and 8-Bit/Chiptunes as the definitive geek music. The only genres that allow for full blown embracement of the geek life style.
In other words, it is easy to forget about the older sibling (not sure if they’d be a brother or [...]

Ben and Mena

January 27, 2007

I was going through some entries in an old blog I have, scrapping out posts of value for a new project that I hope launch soon, and came across this old chestnut.
Ben and Mena
by Steven Frank.
Released by in 2003, the song has been tagged as the first “Blogging Anthem”
Here are the lyrics. I’ve included [...]

January 22, 2007

I came across this thread over on the Nerdcore boards and read through it.
A little while later I sat down and wrote this.
So, its a game to see how many references people can untangle. I’ll admit, there are a couple that no one will get, but there are others that I hope are a [...]

Mac Beautiful

As some one who started out with a 15″ iBook and then moved up to a G5 Desktop. All I can say is, this video fits squarely into the “its funny because its true” category.
